Season 66 exceeds all goals

Written by MerschFlyers at 16:44 22/10-2023

Season ended for us, so time for a little look back at a rocket ride. Near the end of season 65 the Flyers were at the top of Div 4, occasionally hitting Div 3 and having really nothing to show in Div 3 - like all the sprinters lost their nerve. So we brought in virenque of mapei bianchi as sprint coach with the goal getting solidly into Div 3 by the end of Season 66.

In Lebron's first captain back from a break he won Baltimore classic! And from there on to the rocket... We brought in Jochem and Isi to lead the technical finishes, Lonzo for the fast finishes and Flavio to replace Holger as wind breaker. Yuri was a lucky pick up for the tech finishes but was quickly put in a co-captain. Yuri quickly took two wins, including team goal Hybrid Orchid in Singapore.

Now into Div 3, Noa took two 3rds in Norway and Lebron a 2nd - a solid 'best behind Leo Kramer' result, putting us solidly in Div 3 and nearing Zyte. Then Desire got his first win at Derry Bogside with a strong leadout, earning a joker slot at the Ganges tour. The Flyers didn't disappoint - with two 3rds then a big win in stage 5 for Desire and a close second for the sprint jersey.

Ernst pulled in a world tour win at Lubeck and a second in Qatar. With some rest, Sacha got into top form - a past winning receipe - and pulled two podiums; not what we hoped, but enough to be comfortably in Zyte.

Noa had one more shot in Div 3 with a Western Cape sign-up. Now in top form he was head above the rest. Two sprint stage victories and a third leading to GC victory.

Geoffrey, normally on the bubble for lead-out, sealed the deal with a shocking break away victory in Zyte division.

By far our best season - 10 victories across five riders, 21 podiums, our second GC jersey. The goal was solid Div3, and now the Flyers are within striking of Top division.

Enjoy your time in the lower divisions while you can, you are certainly destined for top division.

  Awesome stuff

Thanks! Getting the leadout correct and paying more attention to TS were huge contributions. Some tweaks on the tactics surely helped a few races too.

  Congrats on a great season!
Most of the advice I gave you was minuscule stuff, for the bigger things you already had a plan.
IMO your biggest achievement was investing almost 500k in staff and equipment, while also improving and expanding the roster. Hats off to you!
